Covid-19 Announcement:

Due to these unprecedented circumstances during the Covid-19 pandemic, the German School of Naperville decided that all 2020-21 classes will be held online via Zoom to keep our students and staff, and all the people around us safe. Our teachers have received training for online teaching, and they familiarized themselves with this new technology so we can hope for a smooth start into the school year.

The 2020 school year will begin on Wed, Sept 9 (adults) or on Fri, Sept 11 (children) at the usual start times. Lesson duration for online classes will be 60 minutes per lesson for all children classes. Adult claasses will be 2 hours per lesson.

For the children classes German 1 and higher it is the goal to gradually increase the lesson duration to 2 hours, which remains subject to change, depending on our experience with the online learning format and the children's ability to focus. Teachers will keep parents informed about changes.

Although the online format might make the experience less immersed than our normal classes and activities, we still encourage you to register your children to our school this year to keep up their German language skills, experience some cultural connection, and to continue feeling as a part of our wonderful German community. We are ready for this adventure... are you?

To enroll, please fill out this registration form and send it to director Angela Jöstlein by email or printed out by postal mail. Please make your payment via Paypal here or send a check to director Angela Jöstlein. All contact details can be found on the registration form.

Let's go on this adventure together.

About us

The Naperville German Language School is a non - profit school which teaches students from pre-Kindergarten through adult ages. We maintain a total of 10 different ability levels, to accommodate all students. Our classes are enriched by conversation, German culture and extra curricular activities, such as our Christmas party, and the celebration of various German holidays and customs.
We believe in learning German and having fun at the same time, which keeps the children interested. A total of 6 professionally qualified teachers instruct our classes.
As proud members of GLSC (German Language School Conference) and PASCH (worldwide network of schools, an initiative designed to awaken interest in young people in modern Germany and the German language) we are committed to providing a positive learning experience, and effective and quality teaching of the German language and culture.

Willkommen zur Deutschen Schule in Naperville!

Welcome to our not for profit German Language School!
I am excited to be back at the same location, Congregation Beth Shalom, on 772 5th Ave, Naperville, just downtown, South of Ogden Avenue and off Mill Street (Map). The school will be participating in the Naperville Labor Day parade this year on Monday, September 3. We need students and parents to participate. Please let me know if you can come. You will be rewarded with a cookout at my house with food and drinks. We use 8 classrooms and are an active school that not only teaches the German language, but also German culture.
In November we will be celebrating St. Martins day, also called Lantern day, where the children make lanterns at the school and we will walk through downtown Naperville with songs and music. (canceled due to COVID-19)
December is our Christmas party . This year at the Naperville VFW hall on Chicago Ave. You can bring any sweets from home. (canceled due to COVID-19)
February is the month to celebrate Fasching, or Karneval. A fun evening with games, dress up and food.
May is our graduation party at my house. Another fun outdoors event with food, drinks and class presentation of all classes.
The more advanced students take tests. Either the AATG, given by the American Association of German teachers, or through the German government.
The first Friday every month is a short Friday, due to an early service at the Synagogue. Everybody has to be out of the building by 6:30 pm.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concern.
I wish all students a successful year!
